Today I want to share the process and behind-the-scene thoughts on one of my newest paintings of pink sunflowers on rustic basswood.

This was such a fun piece to create and it is currently available at the moment to purchase on my website!
@greenartistdesigns Finished this wood slice painting a while back but finally got the chance to list it on my site today! Revamping An Old Wood Burned Sign
Tools I Used
The tools I used for this painted sign were pretty basic. I created it on a piece of rustic basswood, used various shades of acrylic paint, outlined the flowers with a white pen, sealed it with a clear spray sealer, and attached a sawtooth hanger on the back.

My Inspiration
I’m always drawing flowers of some sort, and have been doing so for as long as I could hold a pencil. If I’m going to doodle something in a journal, 9 times out of 10 it’s probably going to be flowers.
I love sunflowers and the color pink so I wanted to create some unique pink sunflowers.
Painting On Wood

Take a look around my blog and my online store and you’ll quickly see that I like creating on wood. Though I love canvas and paper too, there is just something about wood that makes the art 10 times more special.
You get to work with the knots, the grain, and the uniqueness of the wood slice. It makes for a fun challenge!
After I was done painting, I outlined the flowers with a white pen to make them really stand out even more. I absolutely love how it came out!
Sealing The Sign
For this pink sunflower wood slice painting, I used a clear spray sealer. I did several light coats of the spray to protect it for years to come.
After sealing it I attached a sawtooth hanger on the back. I do this with all my wood signs so there is the option of hanging it on the wall if desired.
Final Thoughts

I’m happy with how this painting turned out and I’m itching to create some more painted wood slice signs!
