Watercolor has been one of my favorite mediums since childhood. I love the freedom and the surprise effects this medium brings.

Many people think it’s one of the hardest painting mediums because you have less control over the final outcome. I actually don’t mind that, and really enjoy it.
In this blog, I go over my FAVORITE watercolor supplies that I use for my paintings.

Favorite Papers
Arches Watercolor Paper
Arches is hands down my favorite professional watercolor paper. It has a beautiful texture and withstands multiple layers of paint.
Meeden Watercolor Paper
Lately, I’ve been a big fan of Meeden paper. It’s much cheaper than Arches and is considerably close in quality. I also really like using their 4×3″ watercolor paper for my small paintings.
Canson Watercolor Paper
A great beginner paper. It’s also nice for oil pastels, watercolor experiments, or just simple watercolor sketches.
Favorite Watercolor Paint
Daniel Smith Watercolors
I’ve used many different brands of watercolor paint. Currently, I am using Daniel Smith Watercolors in my palette and love them.
Metallic Watercolors
If you love shiny golds and metallics, I 100000% recommend this set! The pigments are stunning.
I have so many watercolor sets. It would be too much to list them all. 🙂
Favorite Watercolor Brushes
Confession, I don’t spend a lot of money on watercolor brushes. I’ve always been rough on my paintbrushes while painting, so I cannot justify spending an arm and a leg on a brush that I’ll just eventually destroy.
Here are some brushes I currently use:
Meeden Brush Set
This is such a nice brush set.
Meeden Detail Watercolor Brushes
I love using this detail brush set when I paint tiny.
Detail Brushes
A nice, simple set of detail brushes. I’ve had the same set for 6+ years now.
Synthetic Squirrel Hair Watercolor Brushes
This is a great budget set.

I know many artists are picky about brushes, but I can basically work with any type of brush as long as I have decent paints and paper. That’s the honest truth!
Other Favorite Supplies I Use With Watercolors
Caran d’Ache Neocolor II
I LOVE using these water-soluble crayons in my work. They can be used to paint with, add dry texture details, and more.
White Gel Pens
These white gel pens are great for adding white highlights to a painting. I use them constantly.
Oil Pastels
I often like to use oil pastels after my painting is finished to add some texture and final details.
Colored Pencils
I sometimes use colored pencils for final details.
Fineliner Pens
Micron pens are another tool I use often in my watercolor paintings. They are great for outlining and adding detail.
Palette Knives
I absolutely love to use a palette knife to scratch in texture while my painting is still wet.
Masking Fluid
When I want to preserve bright whites in my paintings, I use masking fluid. The Winsor & Newton brand has been great.
Tombow Erasers
Tombow erasers are awesome. They remove pencil lines flawlessly and don’t mess up the paper. Highly recommend! I also use Tombow erasers to remove pencil lines from wood.
Color Wheel
A color wheel is always a handy tool to have around when creating art.
Sketch Board
I tape all my paintings to this board. It keeps my working area organized and clean.
Mason Jars
Mason jars are my favorite paint water cups to use.
Artist Tape
I tape most of my watercolor paintings down, so having artist tape around is always a must for me.
Moleskine Sketchbook
Love this watercolor sketchbook!
Some other random supplies I use include a spray bottle to activate my palette and salt if I want to add unique texture to my painting.
