Meeden Watercolor Block Review
I recently tried Meeden Watercolor Paper, and I was surprised. I actually liked it!
I’ve been a fan of Arches paper for years, and to be honest, I’ve become a bit of a watercolor paper snob. Because once you use a quality paper, it’s hard to go back to cheaper papers.
So when I tested Meeden’s Watercolor Paper, I didn’t expect much. But I was interested in checking it out because I’m always looking for new things to try. 🙂

Below, I share a few thoughts about the Meeden Watercolor Block.

With the way I paint and the techniques I use, I feel like I’m a good judge of watercolor paper because if it holds up for me, I think it will hold up for anyone. (lol)
I use so much water when I paint. SO MUCH WATER. Some people would probably be shocked if they saw what I put my paper through.
The block comes sealed on all four sides, which is ideal for preventing warping. You don’t have to worry about taping the paper down to paint, which is a plus. Just start painting right on the block!

The cold-pressed texture is slightly less textured than Arches paper, which I didn’t mind while painting. It still held up well.
The 100% cotton paper holds pigment well, and the colors dried pretty true to tone.

To cut to the chase, I am extremely impressed with the Meeden Cold Press Watercolor Block. It feels like a high-end paper at a great price point.
They also sell hot-press and rough watercolor paper, if you prefer one of those over cold-press. I am obsessed with cold-press texture, so I will 100% always choose that over any other option.
If I feel like playing around and don’t want to waste a piece of expensive paper, I’ll grab my Meeden block to paint on. It’s way less pressure painting on it!

I’ve been using their 4×3″ paper for my mini paintings for several months now and am totally happy with it.

Conclusion
I’ll always choose Arches first, but Meeden would absolutely be my second choice. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly paper, I recommend Meeden’s Watercolor Paper.
