This post is all about how to use oracle cards.
Oracle cards are a unique tool that can be used in many ways. I discovered them many years ago and have used them for inspiration, guidance, and reflection ever since.
Oracle decks can vary in theme and style. If you search the market you’ll see a deck for everyone.
What Are Oracle Cards?

Oracle cards are similar to tarot cards but tend to have simpler structures and themes.
In this blog post, I discuss how to use Oracle cards (though it’s truly up to you) along with some of my favorite decks. Let’s get started!
How to Use Oracle Cards: A Beginner’s Guide

Choose Your Deck
The first step in using oracle cards is selecting a deck that resonates with you. There are countless themes, from angels, animals, pop culture, and fairytales to affirmation, archetypes, and more. Visit a local shop or browse online to find one that speaks to your intuition.

I will admit I have too many decks, but there are so many good ones out there it’s sometimes hard to resist buying them. 🙂

Cleanse Your Cards
Once you have your deck, it’s up to you if you’d like to cleanse it. I like to charge/cleanse my cards under the full moon or using crystals.
To cleanse your oracle deck with crystals, place a clear quartz or selenite stone on top of the deck to clear the energy.

Cleansing helps remove any residual energy from manufacturing or previous handlers.
Ask Your Question & Shuffle
Are you seeking guidance on a specific issue, or are you looking for a general message? Ground yourself by taking a few deep breaths and focusing on your question or purpose.
Most times I don’t have a question, I just pull a card to get a general message/inspiration. I like to do this in the morning so I can reflect on the card during the day.
Draw Your Cards
There are several ways to draw cards depending on your preference and question. Usually, every oracle deck will have a guidebook with suggested card spreads.

When using my oracle cards, I typically only pull one to two cards. Pulling more than two cards can get a little overwhelming, but this is 100% a personal preference.
Reflect
After interpreting your reading, reflect on its meaning for a few moments. Journaling can help you deepen your understanding and track recurring themes over time.
Write down the cards you pulled, your interpretation, and any insights or actions they inspire.
My Favorite Oracle Decks

I like a lot of oracle decks, but here are a few of my favorite I highly recommend:

Final Thoughts
Using oracle cards is a deeply personal and creative practice. As I mentioned, there are many ways to use oracle cards, and once you get more familiar with them you will find your own practice.
As an artist, I’m so drawn towards oracle and Tarot cards because of the imagery and symbolism. I like to pull a card when I need some inspiration or clarity.
