Acrylic Markers & Watercolors

Mixed media has always been a favorite of mine, and lately I’ve been enjoying the combination of acrylic markers and watercolors.

I used to enjoy acrylic painting when I was younger, but now, I really dislike it. After playing around with watercolors for so many years, I can never go back to acrylic painting. I love the freedom and unexpected results from watercolor painting.

But acrylic paint markers are something I do actually like and use to accent my watercolor paintings.

They are a great tool to add pops of color to your art. Check out this video below of me using Grabie Acrylic Markers to add some suggested flowers in the foreground of this landscape painting:

A popular way to use acrylic markers is for coloring. They are smooth, and you can blend them nicely. Some people only use acrylic markers to create art.

When I was younger, I was under the impression I couldn’t use any other media to accent my watercolor paintings because it wasn’t the “proper” thing to do. Now I couldn’t care less, and I use what I want. Oftentimes, I also use oil pastels and colored pencils to accent my watercolor art.

I got these acrylic markers this summer to use in my watercolor paintings, and I don’t think I will be stopping anytime soon. 🙂

Eventually, I want to try them to paint on rocks and wood when I get a chance.

Have you used acrylic markers before? How do you like to use them? Thanks for reading!
