If you’re an artist or someone who loves to purchase original art, you may have seen the abbreviation A-C-E-O floating around somewhere on social media. My TikTok feed is full of it! So what exactly is it?

What Does ACEO Mean?
ACEO stands for Art Cards, Editions, and Originals. These miniature works of art can be anything, but have to measure 2.5 x 3.5 inches to be considered an ACEO.
Why Is ACEO Art So Popular?
There are many reasons why ACEO art is popular. First, they are easier for artists to make because of their smaller size and are typically more affordable for collectors. Let’s discuss the reasons below:

Because of their size, ACEOs are more affordable than larger pieces. This allows more people to purchase original artwork.

ACEO art is easy to collect! Since they are small, they are easier to store, display, and trade.

Types of ACEO Art
ACEO art doesn’t have to be original art. ACEO art can be prints of original art as well. They just have to be 2.5 x 3.5 Inches.
Here are the different types of ACEO art:
Originals: One-of-a-kind art
Limited Editions: Prints produced in a set quantity, typically signed and numbered
Open Editions: Prints that are reproduced without a set limit
Artists can make ACEOs with a variety of mediums such as watercolor, acrylic paint, colored pencil, oil pastels, etc.

Anything! My favorite subjects are landscapes and florals, but here are some other ideas:

How to Display
No need to spend hundreds on framing and matting with ACEO art. Here are a few options for displaying these tiny artworks:

- On your fridge!
They can easily become part of a larger collection or stand alone as tiny treasures. I love mixing my tiny art next to larger pieces in my home. It’s very easy to get creative when displaying small artwork.
Final Thoughts
It’s funny because I have been creating tiny art for years, but never the exact size of an ACEO, 2.5 x 3.5″. I’ve decided to start making some because they are trending and people are searching Etsy and online for them.
These little pieces of art are charming and have loads of personality. If you’re an artist, try making some tiny art!
I love painting small because I can experiment and create with less pressure. To be honest, I do not like creating on large pieces of paper now. As a mom, I have no time, so creating small also gives me the flexibility to create more and produce more pieces. It makes me happy. 🙂
