Last year I got some new art supplies and I love them so much I bought a bunch of new colors to add to my collection.

Swatching My New Caran d’Ache Crayons

These “crayons” are water-soluble artist crayons!

I reviewed the Caran d’ Ache Neocolor II Water Soluble Crayons in a blog post I made last year. If you’re interested in reading it, check out the post here!

Swatching My New Caran d’Ache Crayons

I originally bought a set of 15 because I wanted to see if I’d like them before purchasing more. The set came with some basic colors but it was fine to get started with.

I was thinking I wanted to get some colors that were more my taste so instead of buying a larger set I hand-selected a bunch of colors I wanted to try.

Below I will list the colors I got, a swatch photo, and a painting I made with my new colors. 🙂

Here are the colors I got (not in any specific order):

Periwinkle Blue

Olive

Malachite Green

Gold

Mauve

Dark Green

Indigo

Pink

Sapphire Blue

Prussian Blue

Greenish Blue

Night Blue

Beige

Burnt Sienna

Crimson Alizarin Hue

Paynes Gray

Apricot

Aubergine

Turquoise Green

Moss Green

I didn’t swatch all the colors I got, but basically most of them. I got my favorite greens and blues with a couple purples, along with some other neutrals and a few bold colors like crimson.

Landscape paintings have been my favorite to create for a while now so I’m always using blue and some sort of green. These colors will be PERFECT for my work!

Landscape Painting With My New Crayons

I had zero plans for what I would create with my new neocolor crayons besides a landscape. So I grabbed a few colors and started to scribble.

Intuitive landscapes are really fun to make and my new thing. I pick a few colors and start throwing color down until it turns into something.

New Caran d’Ache Crayons

I kept layering layers of the Caran d’Ache crayons until I was happy. These layer very nicely and you can build up beautiful areas of color.

I used a white gel pen and white oil pastel for the finishing touches.

I’m obsessed with all the beautiful colors I got and I’m definitely going to be using them a lot in my work.

Thanks so much for reading!

Amanda, thank you very much indeed for the lovely blog post, and for sharing your work. I inherited a set of used wax crayons and am curious, how did you get to choose the ones that you wanted rather than being confined to ordering a new set?

Hi! I ordered a bunch from Blick art supplies, you can buy single crayons from there instead of a set!
