I’ve been creating some fun watercolor eclipse artwork in honor of the upcoming total solar eclipse on April 8th.
In late February I remembered the eclipse was coming up and knew I had to add some eclipse art to my shop. I wish I had started earlier, but as a new mom who has no time these days, it naturally slipped my mind.

The moon has captured my heart for as long as I can remember so creating solar eclipse art is right up my alley. It also fits in perfectly with my moon & stars collection.

Solar Eclipse Art
My idea was to create some paintings to put on greeting cards. Cards are 100% the most popular item I sell in my art shop, and I’ve been selling my new eclipse cards on Amazon every day since listing them!
Honestly, I didn’t have plans in mind when I jumped into these paintings. I just wanted a solar eclipse somewhere in them! Some of my favorite art comes from no plans as I don’t have pressure to make it a certain way.

The first painting I did is just simply a magical total solar eclipse. I used a white pen to add details for the sunflares.
My new vibrant Daniel Smith Watercolors shined here as I painted them on heavy-duty Arches Watercolor Paper. I love to use Arches when I know I want to add a lot of layers of paint and water.
This painting is now available as a greeting card! It’s a great keepsake for the eclipse this year. Many customers use my greeting cards as mini art to display instead of using them as actual cards.
The second painting I did is of a total solar eclipse landscape. I love painting trees and nature so for this piece I pictured some sort of whimsical nature scene with a bold solar eclipse in the sky. This is what I came up with!

This unique painting is also available as a greeting card! I’m also planning on making it an art print. I will update here if I’m able to do so.
I’m so excited for April 8th and hope we get a great day to view the eclipse! I live where the eclipse will be 100% visible, and am very much looking forward to it. There will be so many tourists coming to my area and I know there will be a bunch of events too, but I’m looking forward to a nice relaxing day at home.
Hopefully, I can create some more unique solar eclipse paintings to add to my collection. I started another one late last night and I have so many ideas in mind.
It’ll be fun to look back someday and know I created them during the rare 2024 total solar eclipse.
Thanks for reading!
Amanda

Sometimes the art I don’t plan ends up being the best. Isn’t it weird how that happens?
