I wanted to share a few behind-the-scenes of my latest painting, “Strawberry Moon”.

Inspired by June’s full moon, the strawberry moon, this painting came to me late one night in June and I finally finished it.
It’s a mixed media piece, starting with a watercolor painting and then layered with soft and oil pastels. I then added some minor digital details to make it just perfect.
Supplies Used

I really love doing watercolor underpaintings and going over with pastels. Over the years I’ve noticed I’m most comfortable doing mixed-media pieces, and it’s something I actually love to do, so I’m sticking with it.

Did I have a plan for this? Nope. I was inspired by the strawberry moon so I was going to incoperate some pink and obviously have a full moon. Having creative freedom is a must for me. I’ve realized I do my best when I can create without worrying about the final result.

After I was happy with what I had painted with watercolors and pastels, I scanned the painting onto my computer to make a few adjustments. First in Photoshop and then Procreate on my iPad. The final piece is below!
I made this painting into a notecard that’s now available to purchase on my website. Check it out here!
