Are greeting cards still relevant in a world that’s become completely digital?

From the way we communicate with loved ones to the way we share important moments, technology has fundamentally changed the landscape.

Among the many traditions facing this digital revolution, greeting cards are no exception. The question on many minds is whether greeting cards are still relevant in 2024 and beyond.

The answer is yes!

The Evolution of Greeting Cards

Greeting cards have a long and storied history. From their origins as handwritten notes, they evolved into printed cards adorned with beautiful artwork and heartfelt messages. These cards have been exchanged for centuries to celebrate birthdays, holidays, anniversaries, and various life events.

In today’s world, sending a physical card may seem outdated to some. After all, we have instant messaging, social media, and emails to convey our greetings and sentiments.

The Case for Greeting Cards

There are many reasons to still send out greeting cards. So when asking yourself if greeting cards are still relevant today, consider these points below!

Personal Touch: One of the primary arguments in favor of greeting cards is the personal touch they offer. A carefully selected card with a handwritten message can convey a depth of emotion that a digital message may struggle to achieve.

Tangibility: Greeting cards provide a physical memento that recipients can keep and treasure.

Thoughtful Gestures: Choosing a card, writing a message out, and sending it through the mail demonstrates that you took the time to select something special for the recipient.

Unplugged Moments: In a world dominated by screens and notifications, receiving a greeting card can offer a welcome break from the digital noise. It creates a moment of connection and reflection.

Artistic Expression: Greeting cards often feature exquisite artwork and design, showcasing the talents of artists and designers. Many customers of mine use my handmade greeting cards as art to display!

What is the future of greeting cards?

The relevance of greeting cards in the digital age ultimately depends on personal preferences and the nature of the occasion.

I can’t say for certain what the future of greeting cards is, but I have a feeling personal touches like handwritten notes will always be in style.
