ACEO art is so popular right now!

If you’re an artist or someone who loves to purchase original art, you may have seen the abbreviation A-C-E-O floating around somewhere on social media. My TikTok feed is full of it! So what exactly is it?

What Does ACEO Mean?

ACEO stands for Art Cards, Editions, and Originals. These miniature works of art can be anything, but have to measure 2.5 x 3.5 inches to be considered an ACEO.

Why Is ACEO Art So Popular?

There are many reasons why ACEO art is popular. First, they are easier for artists to make because of their smaller size and are typically more affordable for collectors. Let’s discuss the reasons below:

✨ Affordable

Because of their size, ACEOs are more affordable than larger pieces. This allows more people to purchase original artwork.

✨ Collectible

ACEO art is easy to collect! Since they are small, they are easier to store, display, and trade.

✨ Great for gifts

Small art makes for a thoughtful and unique gift.

Types of ACEO Art

ACEO art doesn’t have to be original art. ACEO art can be prints of original art as well. They just have to be 2.5 x 3.5 Inches.

Here are the different types of ACEO art:

Originals: One-of-a-kind art

Limited Editions: Prints produced in a set quantity, typically signed and numbered

Open Editions: Prints that are reproduced without a set limit

Artists can make ACEOs with a variety of mediums such as watercolor, acrylic paint, colored pencil, oil pastels, etc.

Search Etsy, and you’ll find so many awesome examples of ACEO art. 🙂

What Can You Paint on an ACEO?

Anything! My favorite subjects are landscapes and florals, but here are some other ideas:

    • Portraits
    • Whimsical or seasonal art
    • Still lifes
    • Animals or pets
    • Fantasy art
    • Florals and botanical studies
    • Landscapes and nature
    • Abstract designs
    • & more

    How to Display

No need to spend hundreds on framing and matting with ACEO art. Here are a few options for displaying these tiny artworks:

    • Trading card sleeves
    • Small frames or mini galleries
    • Wooden stands or clips
    • On your fridge!

They can easily become part of a larger collection or stand alone as tiny treasures. I love mixing my tiny art next to larger pieces in my home. It’s very easy to get creative when displaying small artwork.

    Final Thoughts

It’s funny because I have been creating tiny art for years, but never the exact size of an ACEO, 2.5 x 3.5″. I’ve decided to start making some because they are trending and people are searching Etsy and online for them.

These little pieces of art are charming and have loads of personality. If you’re an artist, try making some tiny art!

I love painting small because I can experiment and create with less pressure. To be honest, I do not like creating on large pieces of paper now. As a mom, I have no time, so creating small also gives me the flexibility to create more and produce more pieces. It makes me happy. 🙂

Check out my original artwork for sale on my website here. I’m always adding new pieces when I find the time. 🙂

    Thanks for reading!
