I’m here with another quick post today to show off my latest finished wood burned piece! This sunflower wood burning was created on rustic basswood and sealed with gloss polyurethane on the front.

In this post, I’ll share some behind-the-scenes photos of me creating it along with the tools I used.

If you’re interested in wood burning art, stick around to learn a bit about my process. 🙂

Wood Burning

The longest part of the entire process is the burning stage. If you’ve ever wood burned before, then you’ll know this takes a while.

I really like to wood burn sunflowers, they’re just my thing. If you’re new around here, it’s no secret I love sunflowers.

Usually, I do a light sketch before starting but most of it is just created on the moment’s whim. I’ve drawn so many sunflowers in my life so they are second nature to me.

To create my wood burned sunflowers it takes many layers of shading and texture. This really makes them pop.

I’m using my Razertip Wood Burner to create this burning on Walnut Hollow basswood.

I just keep adding shading and texture until it feels right. There’s no moment where I say “oh yeah I’m done”.. I usually force myself to stop. I can just keep adding details if I want, but eventually, I have to stop. 🙂

Sealing

I prefer to seal my work so I know it’ll be nicely protected, especially if I plan on selling it on my website.

I sealed this sunflower wood burning with gloss polyurethane and actually wrote a post further explaining this process. Check the post tagged below if you’re interested!

Attaching Hanger

I always attach a sawtooth hanger on my wood burnings so they can be hung on the wall. It takes a minute to attach one on the back.
