It’s no secret at this point, I’m obsessed with sunflowers. Not only are they beautiful, magnificent, and magical flowers, but there are many benefits to growing sunflowers.
Every year we plant a variety of sunflowers and love to watch these giant sunflowers grow from a tiny seed to sometimes a 12-foot plant (if you want to plant monster sunflowers!).

I have always loved sunflowers since I was a child, but after several years of growing them in our yard, I have realized how many benefits there are to growing sunflowers.
In this post today I will go over my reasons why you should grow sunflowers and the simple benefits of growing sunflowers.

7 Reasons To Grow Sunflowers

1. Beautiful Garden Decorations
Sunflowers make our yard look absolutely stunning. They are a great flower to spruce up your garden or yard with their beauty. With so many varieties of flowers, there is a sunflower for everyone.
2. Attract Pollinators
When we grow our large batch of sunflowers each year, we also attract so many bees and pollinators.
Sunflowers provide food to many insects. This also makes for a fun activity to watch bees and butterflies enjoy your planted sunflowers.
3. Unlimited Supply Of Sunflower Seeds
This may be one of the best reasons for growing sunflowers, the seeds! Every year we harvest seeds from our sunflowers to grow more flowers for the following year. We have never personally cooked the seeds to eat yet, but this is also a great benefit of growing sunflowers!
Unlimited seeds for food for yourself, and birds, or to use to grow more sunflowers. Did I say already just how magical sunflowers are? 🙂

4. Easy To Grow
If you don’t have much of a green thumb, don’t worry because sunflowers are so easy to grow. Every year we have so many sunflowers that come up naturally from seeds that fell into the ground.
These flowers are so hardy and basically impossible to kill.
5. Attract Birds
Whether you like to attract birds in your yard/garden or not, I think this is another great reason to grow sunflowers. Last year it was so peaceful to watch a family of blue jays eat the sunflower seeds from our wilting sunflowers at the end of the season.
6. Free Home Decor
Cut sunflowers make the perfect free home decor and will immediately brighten up any space or area of your home. I love to cut some sunflowers to bring in when they bloom. I do this all throughout the summer!
7. They’ll Make You Happy
I can’t speak for anyone else, but sunflowers are just that kind of flower that makes you smile. They also represent loyalty and are simply known as happy flowers.
Maybe it has something to do with growing in the summer or being closely associated with the sun, but if you want to bring some joy to your life, try growing some sunflowers!
If you have visited my blog before or have been following my work, you know I love sunflowers based on how often they show up in my work. As an artist, nature is one of my biggest inspirations, and sunflowers are my favorite flower subject.
Over the years I have created so many different sunflower creations and lots of sunflower wood burnings. Make sure to check out the Green Artist Shop if you want to check out my work! Thanks for the support. 🙂
